+ our jewellery

All Wilde Flower jewellery is handcrafted by Danniella Wilde using precious metals.

Sterling Silver is an alloy of silver and other metals, usually copper. This is where the 925 comes from 92.5% of the alloy is pure fine silver. Pure silver is too soft for everyday wear; therefore, copper is generally used to give it strength while at the same time preserving the ductility of the metal and its beauty.

Gold comes in two carat options 9ct or 18ct, but what's the difference? Pure gold is also quite soft so other metals are added to the gold to make it stronger and more suitable for use as jewellery. The carat (ct) of gold states what percentage of pure gold is in the metal; 9ct is 37.5% pure gold where as 18ct gold is 75% pure gold. 9ct gold has a lighter yellow colour and is cheaper where as 18ct gold is a richer yellow colour and is more valuable.

+ wearing & handling

Jewellery can be quite delicate therefore it's important that care is taken whilst wearing and handling.

Take your jewellery off if you’re involved in any activity which could knock or damage it.

Take your jewellery off before going to bed.

A good rule to follow: put your jewellery on last (after makeup, perfume, sunscreen etc.) before you leave home, and take it off first thing when you get home.

+ tarnishing & cleaning

All Sterling Silver ages and tarnishes naturally. This is down to a chemical reaction called oxidistaion occuring when the copper in the alloy is exposed to air and various other substances over a prolonged period of time. However, with proper care, it’s easily achievable to keep your silver jewellery in pristine condition. 9ct gold is also prone to tarnishing but at a much lower rate than silver. It is unlikely that 18ct gold will tarnish but it is vital that it is still looked after.

Keep your jewellery away from chemicals, especially those containing chlorine. Remember to put your jewellery on after you’ve used any hair spray, body spray or perfume, as these products can increase the rate at which tarnishing occurs. Make sure your jewellery is the last thing you put on before you go out.

Avoid swimming, bathing or showering with jewellery on.

Cleaning tarnish from jewellery is not difficult especially if you clean at the first signs of tarnish. We recommend using a professional jewellery cleaning product, at Wilde Flower we use ‘Town Talk Silver polishing cloths’. If your piece has intentional oxidisation (for example the dark centres on the sunflower pieces) please pay extra care not to rub the oxidised areas with a polishing cloth as this may result in removing the protective coating or oxidisation. You can still use a polishing cloth on the non oxidised areas to bring back the shine.

Silver ‘dip’ solutions can also be used on full silver pieces, follow all directions on the packet and be sure to rinse thoroughly afterwards. Do not use silver 'dip' soloutions on pieces with intential oxidisation (for example the dark centred sunflowers).

+ storage

Prevent damage or loss of your jewellery by storing them individually in their original box after wearing; contact with other jewellery pieces could cause scratches. Chains should be closed and laid flat to avoid becoming tangled.

To further reduce the tarnishing effect of silver jewellery, ensure your jewellery is completely dry and store sealed with the anti tarnish tab we provided with your Wilde Flower order.

+ repairs
